The Zurich-Basel Plant Science Center The comunication platform on plant sciences
The Zurich-Basel Plant Science Center embodies an interdisciplinary association of cooperating scientists from eight institutes
of the ETH Zurich, the University of Zurich and the University of Basel. The Center comprises a total of about 650 members,
which includes 24 professorships and about 220 PhD students. The goal of the Center is the coordination of research and
teaching between the three institutions in the field of plant sciences.
We intend to
- stimulate the scientific exchange and collaboration between the involved research groups
- plan and realize innovative and complex projects at high scientific level
- increase the knowledge on plants and interacting organism from the molecular level up to the ecosystem.
- Provide graduate students with a broad knowledge in modern plant science disciplines required for
their future roles as plant scientists
- reinforce the cooperation with society, politics and business
- facilitate the share of the available infrastructure
- enhance public awareness of plant science research
We offer
- a yearly symposium in plant sciences to promote the scientific exchange among the members of the Center and to present
each other their activities
- a Graduate Program in plant sciences that will be established for each semester. It includes a graduate
colloquium and a range of intensive credit courses. Doctoral students will be given an additional certificate of performance.
- the possibility to carry out an interdisciplinary PhD thesis within the center and with its financial support
- an informative Website of the Plant Science Center with an events calendar and a job databank
(www.plantscience.unizh.ch and www.plantscience.ethz.ch and www.plantscience.unibas.ch)
- Plant Science News, a biannual newsletter with news and information all around the Plant Science Center
- a summary-databank of all facilities and major equipments of the Institutes that are members of the Center
- public relations
