  • 1976-1978 Studying geology in Basel
  • 1980-1987 Graduate studies in Bern, Doctoral thesis in paleontology and sedimentology, title of the thesis "Paleeocology and sedimentology of crinoid communities in the Lower Hauptrogenstein Formation in northwestern Switzerland"
  • 1987-1991 Post-doc at the University of Bern  working on paleoecology of Late Jurassic lagoonal sediments
  • 1991-1993 Post-Doc fellow at the Geological University of Colorado at Boulder.
  • 1993-1995 Curator of Earth Sciences, Naturmuseum Solothurn (Switzerland)
  • Since 1995 Lecturer in Paleontology at the University of Basel
  • Since October 2000 Director of the Naturhistorisches Museum Basel

 

Scientific Interests

Current interests are Late Jurassic ecosystems of northern Switzerland, Mesozoic terrestrial ecosystems, especially dinosaur tracks. Paleoeocology of lacustrine basins in South America and the Pyrenees. Taxonomic and taphonomic work on echinoderms , especially asteroids and ophiuroids.
